The two-time NAIA DII Men's Basketball Player of the Year was also a three-time NAIA All-American, named twice to the first team ('97, '98) and once as an honorable mention selection ('96). While the Pilots tallied three NAIA National Championships during his four-year career, Rico took home NAIA National Tournament Most Valuable Player honors in 1997 and 1998 and was a member of the NAIA All-Tournament Team in 1995, 1997 and 1998.

From the NCCAA, he also was given the Pete Maravich Award (National Player of the Year) in 1998 and was a three-time All-American ('95 '97, '98). At the conference level, Rico was a two-time MCC Player of the Year ('97, '98) and a three-time MCC All-Conference First Team selection ('96, '97, '98).

Upon graduation, he held two individual men's basketball records and landed in the top 10 in many categories, including 1st in career steals (469), 1st, 2nd and 3rd in steals in a season (132 in '96-'97; 127 in '95-'96; 105 in '96-'97), 2nd in career assists (770), 3rd and 9th  in assists in a season (253 in '97-'98; 220 in '96-'97), 6th in career points (2,084), 7th in single season three-point field goal percentage (42.3% in '96-'97), 8th in career three-point field goal percentage (36.6%) and 9th in career three-point field goals made (127).

Rico is also first in Bethel men's basketball history with 144 career wins to just 12 losses as the Pilots collected the program's three NAIA DII National Titles, four MCC Regular-Season Championships and two MCC Tournament Championships.
