Richard Warren leapt on to the Pilot scene in the fall of 1999 and would make his mark in Bethel history as the first ever NAIA Individual National Champion. After a quick bounce to Kansas State, Warren returned to Bethel where eventually he would win three national championships, while being named an NCCAA All-American 4 times and book-ending those honors with NAIA All-American status in 2000 and 2004. He was also a two-time Mid-Central Conference champion.
Warren's best year was his freshman year at Bethel in 1999-2000. The 1999 Argos High School graduate went undefeated for the year, highlighted on May 27, 2000 in Abbotsford, British Columbia when he won the NAIA National title with a mark of 2.10 meters. He would also win the NCCAA Indoor and Outdoor national titles in the spring of 2000.
Richard's outdoor and overall school record in the high jump of 2.13 meters was set at the NCCAA National Championships in May of 2000.
