Mike Lightfoot graduated in 1978 from Bethel having been a part of the men's basketball team for three years. In 1987, Mike accepted the head coaching position at his alma mater as well as accepting the position of athletic director. Lightfoot found instant success in the world of small-college basketball. At the conclusion of the 2003-04 school year, Lightfoot transitioned out of his role as athletic director. In 30 years as head coach, Coach Lightfoot was able to bring Bethel basketball into the spotlight and leave his mark on NAIA basketball as well as on the Crossroads League.

Along with his accomplishments on the court, Lightfoot has been a leader in integrating Christian faith with athletics. He has been using basketball as a tool for an overseas mission’s outreach. His teams have gone to Mexico, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Alaska, and Ecuador.
