Christopher Hess, a 1994 graduate of Bethel, was named the men's golf head coach in 1996. Over the next 17 seasons, Hess compiled a record of 1,422-458 with a school record 37 tournament titles. His accolades include the men's team's only Crossroads League Championship, two Crossroads League Coach of the Year awards, 16 trips to the NCCAA National Championship, and 7 trips to the NAIA National Championship from 1996-2013.

Hess was then named the women's golf head coach in 2011 and over the next eight seasons compiled a record of 636-183 with a school record 52 tournament titles. His accolades include two Crossroads League Championships, two Crossroads League Coach of the Year awards, four NCCAA North Central Regional Championships, four NCCAA North Central Region Coach of the Year awards, seven trips to the NAIA National Championship and eight trips to the NCCAA National Championship.

Hess also assisted the men's basketball program from 1994-00 and the women's basketball program from 2005-14. He helped the basketball programs to a combined record of 400-101 during his time on the bench, with three NAIA national championships and four NCCAA national championships. 

He retired from coaching following the 2018-19 season and transitioned into his role as full-time Associate Athletic Director. All together Hess coached in 52 national tournaments (36 as a head coach, 16 as an assistant coach) and as a head coach coached 7 NAIA All-Americans, 9 NCCAA All-Americans, 62 NAIA Scholar Athletes, and 42 NCCAA Scholar Athletes.
