Opening Round Schedule
MISHAWAKA – No. 6 Bethel Men's Soccer is set to host William Penn, No. 17 Northwestern Ohio, and No. 23 Hastings in the Mishawaka Bracket for the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship First & Second Rounds. The Pilots earned an automatic berth to the championship courtesy of their 1-0 win over Spring Arbor in the Crossroads League Championship on Saturday and carry 17 straight match victories into the national tournament.
Bethel University's Morey Field was chosen as one of ten Opening Round host sites for the championship. The Pilots will face William Penn on Thursday at 3:00 pm, followed by No. 17 Northwestern Ohio and No. 23 Hastings facing off at 6:00 pm. The winner of those two matches will face off on Saturday at 1:00 pm ion the Second Round.
The winner of that Second Round match will advance to the final site at the Jack Allen Soccer Complex in Decatur, Alabama. The opening round is set for Tuesday, November 29 with the 64th annual championship concluding on Monday, December 5 with the crowning of the national champion.
The Pilots last hosted an NAIA National Championship match at Morey Field on November 21, 2009 as the 8th-ranked Pilots saw an 18-0-1 campaign come to an end in a 2-0 defeat to unranked Bellevue (Neb.).

A LOOK AT WILLIAM PENN
- The Statesmen are located in Oskalooska, Iowa and are members of the Heart of America Conference (HEART).
- The Statesmen are coached by Simon Brown, who is in his third season at WPU, with a record of 36-23-3.
- The Statesmen are 11-6-3 on the season and qualified for the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship courtesy of finishing runners-up in the HEART Tournament Championship.
- The Statesmen have three wins or draws over teams ranked or receiving votes in the Top 25 this season.
- The Statesmen are making their fourth consecutive appearance in the NAIA Men's Soccer Championship and are 1-3-1 all-time in the championship. They appeared in the NAIA Men's Soccer Opening Round last year, losing at No. 9 Indiana Tech.
- The Pilots and Statesmen have one common opponent this season: Central Methodist. The Pilots lost 2-0 to the Eagles while William Penn drew 2-2 in the regular season but fell 4-0 in the HEART Tournament Championship to the Eagles.
A LOOK AT NORTHWESTERN OHIO
- The Racers are located in Lima, Ohio and are members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).
- The Rams are coached by Tyler Brock, who is in his 6th season at UNOH, with a record of 76-24-17. Prior to UNOH, Brock spent 21 seasons at Union (Ky.)—14 as the head coach, with a 143-122-24 record.
- The Racers are 14-2-4 on the season and are ranked No. 17 in the NAIA. They earned an At-Large berth to the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship.
- The Racers have six wins over teams ranked or receiving votes in the Top 25 this season.
- The Racers are making their seventh appearance in the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship and are 8-6-1 all-time in the championship. Their last appearance was in 2020.
- The Pilots and Racers have five common opponents this season: Indiana Wesleyan, Grace, Lindsey Wilson, Aquinas, and Cornerstone. The Racers combined to go 3-0-2 against these five teams with a goal differential of plus-six, while the Pilots went 5-0-0 with a goal differential of plus-nine.
A LOOK AT HASTINGS
- The Broncos are located in Hastings, Nebraska and are members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).
- The Broncos are coached by Cole Poppen, who is in his second season with HC, with a record of 27-6-4.
- The Broncos are 15-1-2 on the season and are ranked No. 23 in the NAIA. They qualified for the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship by claiming the GPAC Regular Season Championship.
- The Rams have three wins over teams ranked or receiving votes in the Top 25 this season.
- The Broncos are making their 18th appearance in the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship and are 25-11-5 all-time in the championship. They have two national championships (2010, 2016) and two runner-up finishes (2011, 2019) in the event.
PILOTS IN THE MEN'S SOCCER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
- The Pilots are making their 12th appearance at the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship and their third consecutive trip.
- The Pilots own an NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship record of 3-12-2. The Pilots upset No. 12 William Carey (Miss.) 2-0 in the First Round before conceding a 2-0 defeat to Opening Round host No. 7 Missouri Valley last season.
THE BRACKET BREAKDOWN
- The bracket consists of 10, four-team Opening Round sites. The 10 winners of those Opening Round matchups will advance to the final site in Decatur.
- The field consists of 27 automatic berths and 13 at-large selections. The automatic berths are determined by regular-season champions or runners-up, conference tournament title winners or runners-up, or by conference selection. The remaining at-large bids are determined by the NAIA Men's Soccer National Selection Committee.
