PLYMOUTH, Ind.--- Over 100 collegiate golfers, representing 12 college and universities, teed it up Monday and Tuesday in the inaugural Pretty Lake Intercollegiate Invitational. The event was hosted by the Bethel Pilots and the Pretty Lake Golf Club.
Â
This 54-hole tournament was a unique format that included host families for all the competing teams and a community wide effort to raise donated items and money for the Marshall County Neighborhood Center – which was an astounding success.
Â
Standing out among them all in the men's field was Bethel junior
Earl Williams, who set new school records for 36 -holes (8-under par) and 54-holes (13-under par) with scores of 67-69-67.
Williams also had a few looks at tying or breaking the record for the low 18-hole score of 66, set by
Jonah Kumfer in the fall of 2024, but "settled" for two rounds of 67.
Behind Williams on the leader board, and finishing as tournament runner-up was freshman
Amaury Wouters.
Wouters came out hot in rounds 1 and 2 and now shares the 36-hole scoring record (with Williams) with his 69-67 opening day scores. The Linkebeek, Belgium native played in his first ever collegiate, carded at final round 76, and finished 9 shots off the torrid pace set by his teammate.
As a team, Bethel held a slim lead at the end of the 2nd round as they fired scores of 291-290, but fell back on the final round (310) to finish as the tournament runner-up behind Midway University.
"We came out really strong on day one, lead by the amazing play of Earl and Amaury, but need we need four scores for us to be competitive," shared Head Coach
John Fischer. "Hopefully we can get these others going before our NCCAA Regional next week!"
Next up for the Pilots is the NCCAA North Central Region Championship, to be contested at Whisper Creek Golf Club in Huntley, IL on September 15th through 16th.Â
