SOUTH BEND, Ind. --The Bethel Pilots qualified for the GLEC playoffs in both Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Saturday, Apr. 12. The Pilots entered into the tournament as the No. 3 seed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the No. 6 seed for Rocket League.
Bethel secured a ninth place finish for Rocket League, and went 1-2 for the Super Smash Bros Ultimate after defeating Baldwin Wallace 2-0 in the opening round.
Blake Wehlage (Blake645) and
August Pogue (Gus) were both named to the GLEC Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 1st Team, while
Gustavo Alvarez (Goose) represented the Pilots on the GLEC Rocket League 1st Team.
In regular season competition,
Blake Wehlage led the team in multiple categories, including total wins (22), KOs (71), average kos/ game (5.46), average kos/ fight (2.22), and number of losses/fight (1.03).
August Pogue was also a standout player for average kos/game (3.92), KOs (47) and number of losses/fight (1.1) in the 12 games he played in prior to the tournament.
Gustavo Alvarez recorded an impressive 76 total goals scored in regular season Rocket League play, while also leading the team in assists (41), saves (83) and an average score of 605.
