MARION, Ind. — The Bethel Pilots Women's Tennis team showcased their talent at the ITA Midwest Regional held at Indiana Wesleyan University from Thursday to Saturday.
In the doubles main draw, the duo of
Kenzie Abdelaal and
Sandy Sharaf made a strong showing, defeating Marian University's pair of Vrkic and Leibbache before overcoming Indiana Tech's Arunkun and Echavarria.
Their impressive run came to an end in the quarterfinals against Goshen's Bodo and Dotsenko.
The second Bethel doubles team,
Saige Rinkenberger and Carla Montaruli faced a tough challenge in the opening round, falling to Indiana Tech's Rubio and San Jose.
In singles action, Abdelaal continued her strong performance, securing victories over Paloma Caceres (Marian) and Telma Herroros (UNOH) before being edged out by Sofia Munoz of Indiana Wesleyan.
Kaavya Palani also made a notable run, defeating Maddie Dell (Spring Arbor), Graciella Sparks (Oakland City), and Joelle Leibbacher (Marian) before being stopped by Munoz in the later rounds.
Sandy Sharaf and
Alexia Pena were both eliminated in the opening round, with Sharaf falling to France Antezana (Indiana Wesleyan) and Pena losing to Isabella Herrera (Huntington).
The Pilots continue Crossroads League play against the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars on Tuesday, September 24, at 1 p.m. in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
