Bethel Athletics announces the 2024 Hall of Fame Class

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Bethel University Athletic Department is pleased to announce the Dr. Albert J. Beutler Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024. This year's class includes Tommy Grant (Track & Field), Taylor (Tepper) Vos (Track & Field), and the phenomenal tandem of Matt Schauss and Zach Miller (Basketball).

One of the fastest men to ever don the Pilot uniform, Tommy Grant came to Bethel University in the fall of 2013 after an amazing prep career at Penn High School. Grant's three years at Bethel from 2013-2016 were nothing short of remarkable, which were highlighted by 4 NAIA All-American honors, 5 NCCAA All-American honors, and a team NCCAA National title in 2015. He was also a part of the All-Crossroads League team 3 times and was a two-time NAIA Scholar Athlete and four-time NCCAA Scholar Athlete.

Majoring in Engineering, Grant's final year of eligibility was used as he competed for the Fighting Irish at the University of Notre Dame. 8 years after his time at Bethel, Tommy still holds records in the 55 m dash (6.42 seconds), the 60 m dash (6.80), the 100 m dash (10.47) and the 200 m dash (21.99). Tommy was also awarded the NCCAA's Wheeler award for leadership and character in 2016.

Taylor (Tepper) Vos vaulted her way into Pilot track & field lore from 2012-2016 and left Bethel University as an incredible 12-time All-American in the pole vault, which included: two NAIA Outdoor All-American nods (2014 & 2015), two NAIA Indoor honors (2015 & 2016), NCCAA Indoor honors (2013-2016) and spots on the NCCAA Outdoor teams in 2013-2016.

Taylor helped lead the Bethel women's Track & Field team to an NCCAA Indoor National Championship in 2015 and won 4 individual NCCAA Pole Vault titles, as well as an NAIA Indoor runner-up in 2016. A double major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Taylor went on to earn her master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of New Mexico.

Matt Schauss came to Bethel University in the fall of 2011 and became a fixture on the court for the Pilots for the next four years, culminating in 3 NAIA National Tournament appearances and a spot on the NAIA and NCCAA First Team All-American teams in 2015. While a devastating knee injury ended Schauss' historic career late in his senior season, it could not take away the greatness he achieved as a do-it-all workhorse and leader for the Bethel Pilots. To this day, Schauss' name appears 29 times in the Bethel men's basketball recordbook, highlighted by: All-time games played (129, 3rd) and Career Minutes Played (4,205, 2nd).

Schauss was 1 of just 10 players in the storied Bethel basketball history to be a part of the 1000/500/400 club as he finished his career with 1,963 points (14th all-time), 779 rebounds and 551 assists. He was on the All-Crossroads League team 3 times and was the Crossroads League Player of the Year in 2015. Matt excelled in the classroom as well being named an NAIA and NCCAA Scholar Athlete twice (2014 & 2015), as well as earning the school's first ever Capital One Academic National Player of the Year award as a senior.

Zach Miller became a Bethel Pilot in the fall of 2011 and after scorching the nets for four years would graduate as perhaps the greatest shooter to ever put on the Pilot jersey. Miller's quick release, unlimited range and high percentage accuracy were a deadly combination that still sees him as the all-time leader in school history for 3-pointers attempted (934), 3-pointers made (420), 3-pointers made per game (3.13) and 3-point % (.450). He also holds the record for consecutive free throws made with 51 straight from the charity stripe.

Zach finished his career as Bethel's 12th all-time scorer with 1.994 points and helped lead the Pilots to three straight NAIA Nationals appearances from 2012-2015 and a Crossroads League Tournament Championship in 2014. He was a four-time All-Crossroads League team member and was a three-time NCCAA All-American, while claiming NAIA All-American honors in 2014. Miller was also exceptional in the classroom, earning NAIA and NCCAA Scholar Athlete honors in 2014-2015 and a spot on the Capital One All-American Scholar team in 2015.

The Dr. Albert J. Beutler Athletic Hall of Fame committee consists of esteemed Bethel University faculty members Norm Spivey, Tim Erdel and Kent Eby, as well as Bethel athletic administrators Tony Natali and Christopher Hess.
