Bethel Softball Defeats Spring Arbor 7-3 in the Nightcap

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 SPRING ARBOR, Mich. ---The Bethel Pilots (7-32, 3-24) showcased their first win of the week against the Spring Arbor University Cougars (23-19, 14-14) in Tuesday's nightcap. 

GAME TWO vs. SAU (7-3 W) 

Bethel University responded in a big way in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader, defeating Spring Arbor 7-3 to split the series.

After falling in game one, the Pilots wasted no time setting the tone offensively. Bethel scored in each of the first three innings, highlighted by a two-run second inning and a four-run fourth inning that broke the game open.

Karleigh Friedrich got Bethel on the board in the first with an RBI single, while Kyra Raney added an RBI in the second. The Pilots extended the lead in the third before delivering the decisive blow in the fourth, scoring four runs on timely hitting, and taking advantage of defensive miscues.

At the plate, Bethel totaled 14 hits, led by Paxton Baker, who went 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Morgan Blubaum added two hits and an RBI, while Alyssa Forys scored twice and recorded a hit. Madison Shaw also contributed two hits, and Friedrich finished with two RBIs in the win.

In the circle, Ryen Clair delivered a strong complete-game performance, allowing just three runs for her fifth win of the season. 

GAME ONE vs. SAU (2-4 L)

Bethel University dropped game one of a road doubleheader to Spring Arbor, 4-2, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pilots broke through in the third inning, plating two runs to take an early lead. Madison Shaw drove in the first run with an RBI single, and Paxton Baker followed with an RBI to give Bethel a 2-0 advantage.

Spring Arbor answered in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to swing the momentum and take a 3-2 lead. The Cougars added an insurance run in the fifth on a solo home run, extending the lead to 4-2.

Bethel threatened early, collecting multiple hits in the first inning, and finished with seven hits on the day. Alyssa Forys led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Madison Shaw added two hits and an RBI. Paxton Baker also contributed an RBI in the loss.

In the circle, Haylee Allen took the loss, tossing five innings, while Madelynn Queen added a scoreless inning in relief.

GAME ONE vs. USF (3-14 L)

Bethel University dropped game one of a road doubleheader to Saint Francis, 14-3, on Monday afternoon, before game two was suspended due to rain.

The Pilots got off to a strong start in the opening inning, plating two runs. Alyssa Forys and Morgan Blubaum both came around to score, with RBI's from Madison Shaw and Paxton Baker, for an early 2-0 lead.

Saint Francis responded in the second inning with a four-run frame, highlighted by a three-RBI home run, to take control of the game. The Cougars continued to build momentum with a nine-run third inning, extending their lead 13-3.

Bethel added one more run in the third as Morgan Blubaum scored on a sacrifice fly from Paxton Baker, but the Pilots were unable to slow Saint Francis offensively.

Blubaum led the Pilots at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored, while Alyssa Forys and Paxton Baker each recorded a hit. Baker finished with two RBI's.

In the circle, Madelynn Queen took the loss, while Riley Northrop and Alysa Fritz provided relief appearances.

Game two of the doubleheader will be resumed at a later date, to be announced on the bupilots website and socials. 

The Bethel Pilots will next face the Marian University Knights on Friday, April 17 at 3 and 5 PM on Gardner Field.
