Mishawaka, Ind. --- Esports battles as Super Smash Bros. and Overwatch went undefeated last week, but League of Legends and Rocket League could not have a clean week.
Overwatch dominated as they beat Cincinnati 3-0 and Alma College 3-0. Sophomore Jon Duta led the team with 83 eliminations, 26,369 damage, and a 32.6 KDA in a win over Cincinnati. Sophomore Jacob Smith led the team with 53 eliminations, 14675 damage, and 18.2 KDA.
"The Overwatch team remains undefeated in NECC and GLEC conferences with wins this week." Said Esports Head Coach Dan Wort. "The team is currently in 1st place in GLEC and 2nd place in NECC."
Super Smash Bros. went 2-0 as they beat Mount Vernon Nazarene 2-0 and Baldwin Wallace 2-1. Freshman Gus Pogue went 10-1 with 24 K.O.s in matches against Mount Vernon and Baldwin Wallace.
Dan Wort said, "Smash Bros team continues to do well in the GLEC conference as they improved their record to 7-2 and remain 3rd place in the league."
J.V. Super Smash Bros. went 0-2 as they lost to Nicholls State 2-0 and Queens University 2-0.
Rocket League went 1-2 last week with a win against Wisconsin-Whitewater 3-0 but fell to Mount Union 3-0 and Baldwin Wallace 3-0. Junior Jayson LaGrou had seven goals, four assists, and a 79% goal participation against UWW. He becomes the third Bethel player to reach 10 career hattrick.
Wort said, "Mixed results for Rocket League. On Tuesday, the team gave the #1 seed Mount Union a run for their money, almost taking them to game five, including Cam Napier, who scored this week's top play. On Friday, the team continued its dominance in the NECC, taking down UWW. The team has only dropped one individual game this season and remains the #1 seed. Saturday was a must-win game for the Pilots GLEC playoffs hopes, and they fell short with a sloppy performance against BWC."
J.V. Rocket League won and lost a match as they defeated Catholic University 4-3 but fell to Murray State 3-0. Sophomore Ian Hulett had 13 goals, two hattricks, 39 shots, and seven assists vs. CUA. He became the second in Bethel history to reach 10 career hattricks. Sophomore Payton Fish had 12 goals, one hat trick, 26 shots, 10 demos, and eight assists vs. CUA.
Wort said, "Rocket League J.V. had a tough up-and-down game against CUA on Wednesday but managed to pull it out despite some technical issues. With this win, they clinch playoffs in the ECAC. Friday night in the NECC, the team played with a sub (ily) and couldn't quite get it together on the pitch." League of Legends was defeated by the University of Windsor 2-1.
