MISHAWAKA, Ind. — Bethel dropped its home opener to Goshen, falling 6-1 on Wednesday at Ward Baker Park.
Goshen took early control by sweeping all three doubles matches, with Bethel falling at No. 1 (1-6), No. 2 (2-6), and No. 3 (3-6), putting the Pilots in a difficult position heading into singles play.
The Pilots' lone point came at No. 4 singles, where
Lukas Slivar earned a three-set victory 4-6, 7-6(6-5), 6-2. Bethel showed competitiveness throughout singles action, including a tight three-set battle at No. 2 from
Aidyn Batyrbekov (6-3, 6-7(7), 5-7).
Elsewhere in singles play,
Dimitar Berdankov fell at No. 1 (3-6, 4-6),
Atanas Ivanov dropped No. 3 (4-6, 3-6),
Ostap Talama fell at No. 5 (6-7(7), 1-6), and
Santiago Flores was defeated at No. 6 (4-6, 4-6) as Goshen closed out the match.
The Bethel Pilots will next compete on Saturday, March 28 at 11 AM as they host the Spring Arbor University Cougars.
