UPLAND, Ind. ---The Bethel Men's Tennis Team opened conference play with a dominant 7-0 sweep over Taylor on Saturday.
The Pilots secured the doubles point with wins across all three courts. At No. 1,
Lukas Slivar and
Dimitar Berdankov earned a 7-5 victory, followed by
Santiago Flores and
Aidyn Batyrbekov with another 7-5 win at No. 2.
Victor Otin and
Atanas Ivanov completed the sweep at No. 3 with a 6-0 result.
In singles play, Bethel continued its control of the match. At No. 1,
Dimitar Berdankov battled back for a 1-6, 6-2, (11-9) win.
Aidyn Batyrbekov added a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 2, while
Atanas Ivanov won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3.
Lukas Slivar earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4,
Victor Otin followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5, and
Santiago Flores closed out the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Head Coach Jamal Henry shared, "This was a great way to start off conference play, and for many of our players, their first taste of what the Crossroads League is all about. (As) I've said, our league is one of the top leagues in NAIA for a reason, and one of our goals is capturing both regular season and tournament conference titles. We started off on the right foot. Hats off to Taylor who played hard all day long.
Bethel moves to 1-0 in conference play and will look for their next victory on Tuesday March 24, as the Pilots host the RV Goshen College Maple Leafs at Ward Baker Park.
