Box Score 2 MISHAWAKA, Ind. ---The Bethel Pilots (4-10, 0-2) fell to the Huntington University Foresters (10-4, 2-0) 10-0 in game one and 8-0 in game two on Tuesday afternoon at Gardner Field.
In game one, Right Fielder
Shelby White and and Catcher
Sonia Yoder each recorded one hit.
Pilots
Kate Cooper and
Shelby White each added one hit in game two, with
Alyssa Forys leading the team with two hits.
In the first game of the afternoon, the Pilot defense held the Foresters until the top of the third.
Maddie Duvall smacked a homer to left to put Huntington on the board 2-0. A significant fourth inning placed Huntington ahead 8-0 with six additional runs scored, beginning with Carli Tharp crossing the plate.
In game two, Duvall struck again with another home run in the first (2-0). The Pilots' defense answered with Maddie Shaw (RF),
Alyssa Forys (SS), and
Grace Walker (C) shutting down a quick top of the second.
In the top of the third, Bethel continued to hone their defensive efforts with a three-up three-down inning. Pilots
Alyssa Forys,
Riley Northrop (3B), and
Paxton Baker (2B) executed to turn the page on the inning.
Addison McCarty pinch ran for
Kate Cooper, who reached on an error, in the bottom of the fourth. Bethel soon had two runners in scoring position with
Alyssa Forys' base hit to left, and McCarty advancing to third on a ground out by
Grace Walker.
Maddy Shaw was able to connect at the plate, but popped up to second to close out the inning.
Cooper added a double in the bottom of the sixth, and was followed by a single by Forys. Forys demonstrated aggressive base running, stealing second for a total of two runners in scoring postiion.
Bethel could not capitalize on the opportunity, and concluded game two with an 8-0 loss.
The Pilots will next compete on Gardner Field on Friday, March 13 at 3 and 5 PM. They will face the University of Saint Francis Cougars (6-4, 2-0).
