Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. ---The RV Bethel Pilots (3-0, 2-0) defeated the Goshen College Maple Leafs (4-6, 0-1) in four sets (19-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-19) on Tuesday evening in the Ruth Gunden Gymnasium.
Bethel holds the first place spot in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Standings, being the only team with two conference wins.
Thomas Dunkley led the team in kills (20) while hitting at a .278 efficiency.
Santana Roybal-Benson, this week's NCCAA Men's Volleyball Student Athlete of the Week, showcased 7 blocks (two solo and five assisted).
Christian Woumnga led the team in both service aces (three) and digs with eleven.
McGwire Eigenrauch totaled 35 assists and 8 digs for the Bethel defense.
In the opening set, the Pilots found themselves at a 4-0 deficit, following one earned kill by Goshen's Mathis Doladille and three consecutive Bethel errors.
Goshen led for the remainder of the set, capitalizing on seven Bethel attacking errors, and claimed set one 25-19.
Bethel regrouped and tied the score for the first time in the WHAC matchup with a kill by
Jibbe Boeren, assisted by
McGwire Eigenrauch (7-7).
A four-point run granted Bethel a significant five-point lead (17-12). The Maple Leafs then struggled to put the ball away, making six errors for a tied game at one set each.
In the final sets of the evening, the Pilots dominated behind the service line with two aces in set three and three in set four.
Goshen's attacking errors outweighed the Pilots by one (eight to seven) in the final set, and Bethel claimed the game three sets to won.
The Pilots will next host the Lourdes University Gray Wolves (4-1, 1-0) on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 PM in the Goodman Gymnasium.
Lourdes ranks second in the WHAC and is also receiving votes in the NAIA.
