Box Score 3 CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Bethel Pilots competed in three matchups in Gosser Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday against Governors State, Campbellsville, and Brescia.
GAME ONE vs. Governors State (3-0 W)
The Pilots kicked off the road series with a strong sweep over Governors State, winning 33-31, 25-19, and 27-25.
The opening set was a battle, featuring 27 tie scores and seven lead changes before Bethel pulled out the 33-31 win.
Bethel's offense posted a .571 hitting efficiency in the first, with 22 kills.
In the second set, the Pilots continued to control the tempo to secure the 25-19 win before ending the match hitting an impressive .396 with 53 kills.
Thomas Dunkley racked up 20 kills on a .410 hitting percentage, adding seven digs and two block assists.
Santana Roybal-Benson added12 kills on a .647 hitting percentage.
Ling Pak Him added seven kills, while
Uros Miloradovic and
Jibbe Boeren each contributed five.
Setter
McGwire Eigenrauch directed the offense with 38 assists while also adding five kills and three block assists. Defensively, the Pilots totaled 14 block assists and 33 digs in the match.
GAME TWO vs. No. 5 Campbellsville (1-3 L)
The No. 10 Pilots (5-1) fell to No. 5 Campbellsville (KY) (11-0) in four sets (15-25, 17-25, 25-19, 23-25) on Friday evening.
The Pilots battled after dropping the first two sets, responding with their strongest performance in the third. Bethel hit .435 in set three, totaling 13 kills with just three errors to extend the match.
Thomas Dunkley led the offense with 12 kills, while
Santana Roybal-Benson delivered an efficient 11 kills on a .625 hitting percentage.
Ling Pak Him added 10 kills, and
Christian Woumnga chipped in eight off the bench.
McGwire Eigenrauch directed the attack with 41 assists as Bethel finished the match hitting .227 as a team. Defensively,
Sebastian Rodriguez anchored the back row with 11 digs, and the Pilots recorded 13 total blocks in the match.
After forcing a fourth set, Bethel stayed within reach late, but Campbellsville closed out the match to remain undefeated.
GAME 3 vs. Brescia (2-3 L)
The Bethel Pilots (6-2) fell in a five-set battle to Brescia (6-4) on Saturday morning, dropping the final match of the tournament 2-3 (23-25, 25-23, 20-25, 29-27, 12-15).
The match was tightly contested from start to finish, featuring 35 tie scores and 18 lead changes.
Thomas Dunkley led the Pilots offensively with 17 kills, adding six digs and a service ace.
Santana Roybal-Benson recorded 12 kills while hitting .360 and contributed 10 block assists in a strong two-way performance.
Luka Moffitt added 11 kills (a season high) and six digs in his second performance as a Pilot.
Ling Pak Him provided a spark off the bench with seven kills.
Setter
McGwire Eigenrauch dished out 31 assists, while
Jack Hughes added 19 assists for a season high.
Sebastian Rodriguez anchored the back row with 18 digs.
As a team, Bethel totaled 60 kills and hit .176 in the match.
With the loss, the Pilots conclude tournament play with a 6-2 record. They will look for their next win against the Indiana Tech Warriors on Feb. 20 in the Schaefer Center. First serve is set for 7 PM.
