Box Score MISHAWAKA, Ind. ---The No. 7 Bethel Pilots (7-1-2, 1-0-1) defeated the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougars (5-2-3, 0-1-1) 4-0 on Morey Field on Saturday evening.
The victory is sweetened by the fact that in the 2024 Season, the Pilots fell 2-1 to the Cougars in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Senior
Mathis Neuhaus played all 90 minutes of the Crossroads League matchup, claiming the clean sheet.
While neither team scored in the first half of the evening, the Pilots returned focused and ready to score in the latter half.
Lucas Lima hit the back of the net in the 50th minute of the match. With the goal, the Sao Paulo Brazilian native has now posted three of the Pilots' 23 total season goals (13%).
Sebastian Lopez scored in the 62nd minute of the match, assisted by
Luca Canto and
Jose Alvarez.
Ivan Rodriguez and
Dani Suarez posted back-to-back goals in the final minutes of the game.
"Very good team performance," shared Head Coach
Thiago Pinto. "I thought we could have created more in the first half, but we increased the tempo and were able to find the rhythm of play in the final third. We have to bring that fight for 90 minutes."
The Pilots will battle their next Crossroads League Opponent, the University of Saint Francis Cougars, on Wednesday, Oct. 1st at 7:00 PM. Bethel will travel to Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium for the matchup.
