PLYMOUTH, Ind.---Over 100 collegiate golfers, representing 12 college and universities teed it up on Monday and Tuesday in the inaugural Pretty Lake Intercollegiate Invitational. The event was hosted by Bethel University and the Pretty Lake Golf Club.
Â
This 54-hole tournament was a unique format that included host families for all the competing teams and a community wide effort to raise donated items and money for the Marshall County Neighborhood Center – which was an astounding success.
Â
The competitive golf tournament morphed into a dramatic final round battle, which saw three teams battle back-and-forth within a few shots of each other.
Â
In the end, it was the NAIA No. 24 Ranked Pilots that pulled out a 5-shot victory over Huntington, while Grace finished 8 shots off the pace.
Â
Bethel was led by senior
Selah Unwin, who carded a final round 82 to secure a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Sophomores
Karisa Dyer and
Izzy Aigner also finished in the top 10 overall.
Â
"This was really an incredible tournament experience for all the colleges and universities represented," shared Head Coach
Christopher Hess. "The people of the Plymouth Community and Pretty Lake Golf club were amazing, and I couldn't be more proud of the way they treated these student athletes! We managed to collectively donate a lot of food to the Marshall County Neighborhood Center."
Â
Hess continued, "The tournament itself wasn't pretty for our ladies, but they absolutely gutted their way to a win, and I'm so impressed with the way they overcame a lot of different adversities. We never take any victory for granted and give God all the glory!
Selah Unwin carried us again, but we had crucial clutch performances at times from Izzy, Karisa,
Megan Bishop, and
Ellie Webster to get the win."
Â
Next up for the Pilots is the NCCAA North Central Region Championship, to be contested at Whisper Creek Golf Club in Huntley, IL on September 15th through 16th.Â
