Box Score 2 HUNTINGTON, Ind.--The Bethel Pilots (7-19, 2-10) fell to the Huntington University Foresters (19-9, 8-6) 12-4 and 8-0 on Friday at the HU Softball Field.
GAME ONE
In the bottom of the second, the Foresters put up a crooked number with seven runs from a walked-in run, an RBI single to left, a run scored by a hit-by-pitch, a bases-clearing double, and scored on a putout.
Madison Shaw smacked her first home run of the year in a grand slam, scoring
Natalee McNeil,
Morgan Blubaum, and
Jordan Markley to aid the Pilots in climbing back, 7-4 HU.
The Foresters tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single to center to start the HU offense. A passed ball allowed the Foresters to score their
second run of the inning and the third run was plated from a hit batter, HU pulled away further 10-4.
Huntington tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth with a single to left and their 12th run of the game from a single up the middle to win game one 12-4.
Natalee McNeil (2-6) was given the loss after she pitched for one inning and allowed six hits, seven runs, and walked one batter.
GAME TWO
Huntington posted the first runs of the game in the bottom of the second, with two consecutive doubles resulting in a 3-0 Forester lead.
In the bottom of the third, infielders
Alyssa Forys and
Kate Cooper secured a clutch double play that prevented the Foresters from scoring in the inning.
Huntington racked up four additional runs in the bottom of the fifth, following a Forester three-run home run (6-0) and an RBI single (7-0).
A final double to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning gave Huntington their last run as the Pilots fell 8-0 for the mercy rule.
Ryen Clair (1-6) pitched for four innings and allowed five hits, four runs (two earned), walked one batter and struck out one.
The Pilots face the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats at Gardner Field on Saturday, Mar. 29, for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
