MARION, Ind. --- Lamarr Williams and Landon Herbert were top finishers in their events at the Midwest Classic on Saturday, which was the last chance to qualify for the NCCAA National Championship.
Williams qualified for the finals in the 60-meter with a 6.85 (2nd place), finished the event in third with a 6.82, and hit the NAIA 'B" standard. He also took second in the 200-meter with a 22.20 and a NCCAA Standard. Marcus Smith hit the NCCAA Standard in the 60-meter with a 7.11 and placed 11th.
Derek Vondrak qualified for the NCCAA National Championship in the 60-hurdles with a 10th-place 8.95.
Lucas Linder rounded out the running events with a 7th-place finish in the 400-meter with a 52.58 to qualify for the NCCAA National Championship.
In the field events, Herbert placed third in the Long Jump with a 6.30-meter mark for the NCCAA Standard.
Joey Rutten took sixth, and Trevor Smith took eighth after a tiebreaker separated the two after finishing with a 4.15-meter mark. Rutten in the 4.15 on his first attempt, and Smith cleared it on his second.
Christopher Kourthuis hit the NCCAA Standard in the Pole Vault at 3.85-meters and placed 13th, and Tyler Simpson hit the NCCAA Standard with a 13.45-meter mark and placed 17th in the Weight Throw.
The Pilots prepare for the NCCAA National Championship at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, from Friday, Feb. 7 to Saturday, Feb. 8.
