ALLENDALE, Mich. --- Aaron Douglass of the Bethel Pilots Men's Track and Field Team shattered the Bethel University School Record for the Men's Indoor 5k on Friday at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open.
Douglass showcased a 15:32.32 time, setting a personal best while claiming fifth place in his heat out of 21 runners.
Aaron Douglass wrote, "I think it was definitely a fun race and I was just happy to go out and use the gifts God has given me and to run with joy."
Jarrett Walbolt held the previous record with a time of 15:41.61.
Head Coach Ryan Sommers shared, "Aaron ran a smart, gutsy race. It's tough to maintain training for three weeks after the conclusion of the cross country season and a busy week with tests and presentations, but he was able to accomplish the goals set for this evening. I believe he will go much faster after the break because he is running and racing with a good focus and joy."
Andrew Golba placed 13th out of 25 runners in his heat (16:39.16) for the same event, above NCAA Division II Runners from Purdue Northwest.
The Men's Track and Field team will next compete on Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Bob Eubanks Open at Grand Valley State University.
