MISHAWAKA, Ind. ---The Bethel Pilots (2-0) defeated the IU Kokomo Cougars (0-3) on Friday afternoon at Ward Baker Park.
The matchup marked the Pilots' second 7-0 fall sweep, as well as Bethel's fourth consecutive win over the Cougars (beginning with their victory on Sept. 9th, 2022).
Bethel claimed every doubles and singles matchup against the Cougars.
Highlighting the doubles matches were the formidable
Paula Nadal and Daniela Pineros (#2), who blocked opponents Kennedy Perrin and Sophia Davidson from posting a single point (6-0).
Kako Uchijo and Faida Elsayed (#3) held their ground with a 6-1 win over Breanna Koester and Molly Farkas. Uchijo also showcased an incredible singles performance, winning 6-0 in both matchups against Molly Farkas (#4).
Mariami Jikhvashvili unveiled incredible play in singles. In addition to picking up her first collegiate win, Jikhvashvili swept Kennedy Perin (#6) 6-0 following her opening 6-2 win over Perin.
Paula Nadal held Molly Farkas (#5) to one point in each matchup of her Pilot debut: 6-1, 6-1.
Head Coach Jamal Henry shared, "I was really proud of the way the women came out and took care of business on the court today. With a couple of injuries to key players, we had some new players like
Mariami Jikhvashvili and
Paula Nadal step in and get their first college singles wins, and we didn't miss a beat.
Kako Uchijo played her best match of the short fall season, and the rest of the ladies in the lineup played their same consistent tennis. It was a good win."
