Softball falls behind Forester bats in double header sweep

HUNTINGTON, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots Softball team (8-39, 4-30) fell victim to the run rule in both games against the Huntington Foresters (24-24, 16-18) on the road on Tuesday in Crossroads League play.

GAME 1

The Pilots showed their determination at the top of the second inning, scoring four runs, led by Hannah Goldsborough's RBI double to left field, followed by Meghan Younger's double down the left field line to quickly jump to 3-0. Emily Kidwell's single up the middle added to the Pilots' score, but the Foresters retaliated with five runs in the bottom of the second, reclaiming the lead 5-4.

An error in the bottom of the fourth, followed by three doubles and a single for a total of seven runs, forced the 10-run-rule after retiring the Pilots in the top of the fifth for the game-one victory 12-4.

GAME 2

The Pilots were held scoreless in the nightcap and limited to four hits.

The Foresters hit the ground running with a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the first, followed by another double up the middle to jump to 4-0.

A sacrifice fly and another RBI double grew the Forester lead to 6-0 in the fourth, and Huntington drove in two more runs in the sixth from an RBI double to right and a single through the middle to force the 8-run rule in the sixth. The Forester took game two 8-0 and swept the series.

NEXT TIME OUT

The Pilots play the season's final two games against the Saint Francis Cougars (Ind.) on Thursday, April 25, for a 3 p.m. doubleheader in Fort Wayne, Ind.
