MISHAWAKA, Ind. --- The Bethel Softball team (5-12, 1-3) took on the Spring Arbor Cougars (10-7, 2-2) Friday afternoon and split the games as the Pilots lost 9-4 and won 2-1.
GAME 1
The Pilots had four errors compared to Spring Arbor's, which resulted in two runs before the Pilots got on the board.
Spring Arbor scored its first run in the bottom of the first due to a pitcher's throwing error, and then SAU continued to score three more in the third.
Alyssa Forys scored two runs on an RBI double to center field, which sparked Madison Shaw to switch places with Forys and score the third Pilot run in the top of the fifth. Kate Cooper singled to center, bringing Shaw to cap a big four-run inning.
The Cougars scored three more in the bottom of the fifth on a dropped fly ball in center, a groundout to second, and a single through the left side, sealing the 9-4 Cougar victory.
Harmony Looney pitched six innings, had eight hits, walked six, and struck out one.
GAME 2
Bethel started early as Alyssa Forys singled down the line, bringing Meghan Younger in after she doubled right before in the first.
Emily Kidwell flew out to center but earned an RBI as Kate Cooper hustled in for another point on the board in the top of the 6th.
Bethel was able to close out the 6th and 7th as they grabbed their first Crossroads League victory of the season.
Leeah Wade pitched seven innings, walked one, struck out one, and had nine hits.
NEXT TIME OUT
The Pilots will be home on March 16 at 1:00 p.m. for the first pitch versus Taylor University. The games will be broadcast on the Bethel Sports Network in conjunction with the Regional Radio Sports Network, with the pregame show starting at 12:45 p.m.
