GOSHEN, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots dominated their match against Goshen College with a commanding 5-0 victory in the Pilots' largest margin of victory over the Maple Leafs in program history on Saturday evening at the Ingold Complex.
The 5-0 victory tops the 4-0 wins in 1991 and 2000 and it ties the most goals Bethel ever scored against Goshen, 5-2 in 2001 and 5-1 in 2015.
The Pilots opened the scoring in the 21st minute when
Piero Sabroso found the back of the net, assisted by
Sami Charaf Amal. Bethel continued to apply pressure, with
Andres Gonzalez Maza adding a second goal in the 31st minute, followed by Charaf Amal himself scoring just two minutes later, extending the lead to 3-0 before halftime.
Sabroso remained in form, netting two more goals in the second half in the 55th and 61st minutes, completing his hat trick and bringing his season total to 16 goals. The Pilots' defense stayed solid throughout, preventing Goshen from scoring and holding them to just a few chances.
Bethel's keeper,
Benjamin Venegas, made crucial saves to keep a clean sheet, while the offense fired 14 shots, with 10 on target.
With the win, the Pilots improved to 10-4-2 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while Goshen remained winless in the Crossroads League, falling to 3-8-5 and 0-5-2 in the conference.
The Pilots' next game is on Saturday, October 26, at 5:00 PM against Taylor University at Morey Field in Mishawaka, Ind.
