INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- In a tough battle with the #13 Marian Knights (11-2-2, 4-1-1) at ASV Field Wednesday night, the Bethel Pilots (6-4-4, 0-3-3) was shutout 5-0.
The sparks flew early with Marian's Layla Brown scoring in the second minute followed by Katie Koger in the 7th minute to push a 2-0 advantage early, then Marian Corro Celma scored in the 8th minute to give the Knights a 3-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of the game.
The Knights set up for a penalty kick in the 11th minute but Pilot keeper
Meghan Kiebel made the save to preserve the 3-0 score.
Karly Harkness fired a shot in the 14th minute for BU's first try of the game but came up empty from Mycheala Johnson's save.
The Knights would go into halftime up 3-0 but not before one final attempt in the 45th minute that was saved by Kiebel.
Marian continued to hold possession and fired five shots through the 55th and 56th minutes with
Lauren Gatewood in the net for Bethel and came up with three saves.
The Knights found the net again in the 74th minute for Brown's second goal of the game and hit secured the hat trick in the 82nd minute to secure the Knight 5-0 victory.
The Pilots had 17 saves between Kiebel (4) and Gatewood (13) along with only two shots taken for the Pilot offense on the night.
Bethel takes on the Goshen Maple Leafs on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Morey Field for the US Highway 20 Cup with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Bethel Sports Network with Nate Wangler on the call.
