Pilots finish 3-0 in Liz Hossler Labor Day Classic with wins over UM-Dearborn and Cumberland (Tenn.)

MISHAWAKA, Ind. --- The NAIA 16th-ranked Bethel Pilots (11-0) extended their win streak to 11 matches after defeating Michigan-Dearborn (3-4) and Cumberland (Tenn.) (7-8) in the final matches of the Liz Hossler Labor Day Classic.

The Pilots split the wealth of kills, with Isabelle Greene, Maddy Payne, and Taylor Delp leading the team with eight kills each.

The Pilots fought to a 24-20 lead in the first set but allowed the Wolverines to battle back and tie 24-24 but prevailed 27-25 to secure the set victory.

The Wolverines stayed neck and neck with the Pilots in the second set at 19-17, but Bethel put up and maintained a four-point advantage with a kill by Payne. In the third set, the Pilots rode to a comfortable and gradual victory to sweep Michigan-Dearborn.



VS CUMBERLAND (TENN.)


Maddy Payne set a new season high of 17 kills as she nears her career high of 19 set in 2021 with Taylor Delp, who swung 10+ kills for the second time this season and was two kills from setting a new career high.

Haley Biedenbach impressed with 52 assists and 17 digs for the Pilots in her second time this season with 50+ assists, last done on Sept. 1 vs. IUSB.

The Pilots remain undefeated and only have lost three total sets in their win 3-1 over the Wolverines.
