Game Recap: Softball |

Softball fell short to #17 Marian in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots Softball team (4-30, 3-21) fell to the NAIA 17th-ranked Marian University Knights in a five-inning run rule in both games on Tuesday afternoon after a cold day at the plate for the Pilots.

GAME 1

The Knights struck first with a crooked number in the bottom of the first inning after plating five runs on a two-RBI double, an RBI single to center field, and a bases-clearing two-RBI triple.

In the bottom of the second, Marian hit two more runs, starting with a bunt that resulted in an error that scored the Knights' sixth run. Later in the inning, the seventh run was scored on an RBI double to right field.

The bottom of the third came with one last strike by the Knights, scoring five more runs before the Pilots plated their first run in the top of the fifth, where they got three runs back. Lita Sills got Bethel on the board with an RBI single through the right side, scoring Alyssa Forys.

Meghan Younger slapped a sacrifice fly to center field, which plated Emmie Pugh, and Emily Kidwell, forced an error in left field, and scored Micaela Beineke for the Pilots' third run but fell short to the Knights 12-3.

GAME 2

The Knights put up five runs in a hurry again in the nightcap, starting with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, then laced two more runs home on a two-RBI single to left field.

After a quiet second inning, Marian scored another on an RBI triple, which scored the run on an error.

Marian got into run-rule range in the fourth inning but was one run short of the 10-run rule after a sacrifice flew to centerfield and a run scored on an error.
