Game Recap: Softball |

Younger's late game heroics give Pilots Softball split over Huntington

Mishawaka, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots Softball team (5-31, 4-22) split with the Huntington Foresters (17-22, 12-16) with a loss of 1-0 in a pitchers' duel and won 4-3 in a tight nit nightcap that was close to the final inning.

GAME 1

It was a low-scoring affair with a silent first frame and a half, with the first run of the game coming in the bottom of the second from a Forester run scored on an error, which would result in the only run of the game.

Emmie Pugh had a good game at the plate with two singles going 2-for-3 and had four putouts in center field.

Hannah Frady started the game in the circle and pitched a complete game on 90 pitches. She only allowed one run on two hits with four walks and a punchout after facing 23 batters.

GAME 2

The action started early in the nightcap with Meghan Younger doubling to left field, which scored Emmie Pugh unearned to lead 1-0 in the top of the first. Huntington answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame on an error which gave the Foresters the lead 2-1.

Lita Sills tied the game in the top of the third inning with an RBI single up the middle to score Alyssa Forys. Younger ripped in Pugh on a single to center field, which gave the Pilots the lead back 3-2.

Huntington tied the game again in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double, but Younger was the hero in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to score Pugh, and Ryann Norris shut the door to get the win 4-3.

Norris allowed three runs on six hits in her complete game outing with one walk and seven strikeouts, all in 92 pitches.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • Meghan Younger had a three-hit and three RBI game in game two.
  • Both starters threw under 100 pitches in their outings in two tight games.
