Box Score 2 Winona Lake, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots (4-28, 3-19) drop two close Crossroads League games on Saturday vs. the Grace Lancers (9-22, 8-18).
GAME 1
The Lacers struck first with one run, scoring in the bottom of the first, but Bethel matched that run with one of their own with a Lita Sills RBI single that brought Emily Kidwell home.
Grace earned three runs in the bottom of the second, putting the Pilots down 4-1.
The Pilots grabbed another run in the top of the sixth from a Meghan Younger RBI single that brought in Kate Cooper.
The top of the seventh is when Alyssa Forys and Emmie Pugh were both walked, and Allison Snyder reached first by the fielder's choice. Emily Kidwell hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Forys, but that wasn't enough, as Pugh was later thrown out at third to end the game 4-3.
Hannah Frady pitched a six-inning game, allowing four runs on eight hits and three strikeouts on 95 pitches.
GAME 2
The Pilots scored fast in the first as Pugh had an RBI single and Younger had a two-RBI single.
Grace was able to follow suit in runs in the bottom of the first as they scored three runs to tie the game 3-3 after one.
Bethel regained the lead as Sills hit a sacrifice fly to left field that brought in Snyder to put the Pilots up 4-3 in the top of the third.
The bottom of the sixth is when the Lacers earned four runs from a double, a wild throw from the Pilots, and a couple of singles.
The Pilots popped out, grounded, and lined out to close the game as Grace won 7-4.
Ryann Norris threw for six innings and had nine hits, seven runs, and five strikeouts on 101 pitches.
THE PILOTS HIT THE ROAD
Bethel travels to Huntington University for a doubleheader on April 17, with game one scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
