Box Score 2 Marion, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots Softball squad (1-25, 0-16) fell to the NAIA sixth ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats (23-9, 12-6) after a nail-biter in game two which went to eight innings Monday afternoon.
GAME 1
The Pilots struggled in game one, with three hits in five innings. Alyssa Forys singled to center field in the top of the first but was left on base after Emmie Pugh struck out.
Lita Sills singled in the top of the third, but IWU got three outs quickly in the inning.
Emmie Pugh earned herself a double in the top of the fourth, but the Pilots could not capitalize, which led to a Wildcat 10-0 win in five innings.
Hannah Frady stated 10 runs on nine hits with 132 pitches.
GAME 2
Bethel struck first with an Emily Kidwell walked RBI, bringing Alyssa Forys for their first lead. IWU had two runs in the bottom of the third, which gave them the lead.
Lita Sills gave the Pilots the lead with a three-RBI homer in the top of the fourth, bringing in Hannah Bushaw and Megan Pearson to give the Pilots back the lead.
The top of the fifth is when the next run was earned from Bethel when Sills singled to center field, bringing in Kidwell, extending the lead 5-2.
In the top of the seventh is when Indiana Wesleyan came back with five hits and three runs that would tie the game at 5-5.
After Bethel could not score in the top of the eight, IWU singled and scored while having two outs to finish the game with a 6-5 victory.
Ryann Norris threw 134 pitches and had six runs on 11 hits and five strikeouts.
NEXT TIME OUT
The Pilots travel to Goshen, Ind, to take on Goshen College on April 11 for a doubleheader, with game one scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
