Box Score Mishawaka, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots (9-14, 5-12) battled with the Blue Devils (16-9, 10-7) in a five-set thriller, with Lawrence Tech coming away with the victory 3-2 in the Goodman Gymnasium Friday night.
The Men's Volleyball team started hot in the first set as they went on a 5-0 run led by Marcos Henrike with four kills out of those five points. Bethel maintained the lead, leading to a 25-22 set one victory.
Set the Pilots led two until Lawrence Tech caught up and tied the set at 16-16. It went back and forth until the set was tied at 23, and LT took the final two points, which made the game 1-1.
In the middle of the third set, LT went on a 5-1 run which put them up 14-10, but the Pilots didn't shy away as they soon found a 12-4 run that gave them their second set win of the night (25-23).
The fourth set was, again, back and forth until it was tied 23-23, but LT got the last two points to go their way again, just like the second set, which tied the game 2-2.
LT got a quick jump in the fifth and final set with a 5-2 lead. BU could claw back with a block from Mustafa Yildiz and a kill from Erik Malek, which helped BU reach eight points, but LT finished the pilots with three straight points, with the final being 15-8.
Marcos Henrike led in kills with 18, with Mustafa Yildiz (15) and Arthur Barreto (14) close behind. Erik Malek led the Pilots in assists with 55, while Gerardo Sanchez recorded the most digs with nine.
