Mishawaka, Ind. --- Led by the balanced scoring attack of Chikara Tanaka, Drew Lutz,
Nathan Aerts and Tanguy Touze, the Bethel University Pilots defeated Calumet St. Joseph, 83-66 before a raucous crowd in Gates Gymnasium.
The Pilots overcame a sluggish shooting performance with an aggressive defense and by outrebounding the Crimson Wave 50-44.
The Japanese native Tanaka was the leading scorer, putting up 22 points, while going 8-16 from the floor and 3-7 from three-point range.
Granger native Drew Lutz, playing with a large contingent of local supporters, adding 17 points, including three trifectas of his own, adding 6 rebounds and 6 assists.
Aerts had a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 18 rebounds and Touze, who hails from Pontault-Combault, France finished off the double-digit scoring with 10 points.
Bethel's defense set the tone early and often, leading to 19 points off turnovers, while their offensive rebounding gave them 15 second chance points.
