Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lutz and Tanaka combine for over 50 points in win over Holy Cross

Mishawaka, Ind. --- The Bethel University Pilots jumped out to a big lead quickly, overwhelming their crosstown foe Holy Cross 80-55 in the Crossroads League/CCAC Crossover game held Wednesday night at the Wiekamp Center.

Drew Lutz and Chikara Tanaka accounted for 15 of the 20 opening points as Bethel opened the game on a 20-2 run.

That lead would eventually swell to 37 points when Bethel widened the gap to 79-32 with 8:13 left in the game.

Lutz was remarkable in the first half, scoring 23 points and knocking down 7 trifectas by intermission.

The senior transfer from Granger (by way of Incarnate Word) ended the night with 8 three pointers and a game high 28 points, to go along with 5 assists and six steals.

Tanaka was equally impressive, finishing with 25 points and 4 assists. The freshman from Yokosuka, Japan knocked down three shots from behind the arc and was once again a spark on the defensive end of the court.

With the win, the Pilots improve their record on the young season to 2-0, with another crosstown clash coming up Friday night at IU South Bend.
