Box Score ALBION, Mich. — The Bethel Pilots (1-1) earned a hard-fought 10–9 road victory over the Albion Britons (1-2) on Tuesday at Alumni Field.
Bethel started strong in the opening quarter, scoring four goals to take an tie 4–4 at the conclusion of the first.
Kyra Dominick opened the scoring for the Pilots, followed by goals from
PJ Pearson,
Megan Williams, and
Mackenzie Holland.
Albion briefly took the lead in the second quarter, but Bethel responded with goals from
PJ Pearson and
Ella Vick to keep the game close as the Britons held a 7–6 advantage at halftime.
The Pilots pressed forward in the third quarter.
Ella Vick scored twice in the period, including a late goal assisted by Taylor Stockdale, to keep Bethel within one heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter,
Brooklynn Sallee tied the game at 9–9 before
PJ Pearson scored the game-winning goal with 1:42 remaining, assisted by
Ella Vick, to secure the victory.
Pearson and Vick led the Bethel offense with three goals each, while
Maddie Reel recorded nine saves in goal to help seal the win.
Bethel finished the game with 32 shots and 21 on goal.
Head Coach
Jeremy Brown shared, "Today was a great win against a really good opponent. The team played together and fought through a lot of adversity." He continued, "When Albion started to string together a few goals and threatened to pull away, we were able to break their run. They knew if they could keep it close they'd have a chance at the end, and that's exactly what happened. I'm really proud of them."
The RV Bethel Pilots will next face the Madonna University Crusaders (1-3) on Saturday, March 14 on Morey Field. Gametime is set for 1 PM.
