MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The RV Bethel Pilots defeated the Spring Arbor University Cougars 4-3 on Saturday at Ward Baker Park, showcasing a strong performance in a tightly contested match.
Spring Arbor claimed the doubles point, winning at No. 1 (6-3) and No. 2 (7-5), while Bethel's No. 3 pair of
Ostap Talama and
Atanas Ivanov earned a 6-3 victory.
In singles play, Bethel secured four wins to clinch the match.
Aidyn Batyrbekov battled to a three-set win at No. 2 (5-7, 7-5, 6-1), while
Atanas Ivanov followed with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory at No. 3.
Lukas Slivar earned a straight-set win at No. 4 (6-2, 6-0), and
Ostap Talama added another point at No. 5 (6-4, 6-1).
Spring Arbor picked up wins at No. 1 (2-6, 2-6) and No. 6 (6-2, 3-6, [10-12]), but Bethel's depth in the middle of the lineup proved to be the difference.
Head Coach Jamal Henry shared, "This was a good way to bounce back after a tough loss earlier in the week. I thought our guys came out with a better game plan and great will to get the job done."
The Bethel Pilots will next compete on Wednesday, April 1 against the No. 11 Marian University Knights. First serve for the road matchup is set for 2 PM in Indianapolis, Ind.
