Box Score 2 DAVENPORT, Iowa. ---The No. 12 Bethel Pilots (12-4, 10-0) fell to the No. 2 Saint Xavier Cougars (20-3, 9-0) and the Saint Ambrose Fighting Bees (16-9, 5-4) on Saturday evening at Lee Lohman Arena on the campus of SAU.
Game 1 Recap – vs. No. 2 Saint Xavier (Ill.)
Bethel opened the day with a tough matchup against No. 2 Saint Xavier, falling in straight sets (19-25, 17-25, 17-25).
The Pilots struggled to find offensive rhythm early, hitting .111 as a team while Saint Xavier controlled the pace throughout the match.
Nikola Radicevic led the Pilots with 6 kills, while
Santana Roybal-Benson added four. Defensively, Bethel totaled 27 digs but couldn't slow down Saint Xavier's efficient attack on a .364 hitting percentage.
McGwire posted 17 assists, while
Christian Woumnga led the team in digs with seven.
Game 2 Recap – vs. Saint Ambrose (Iowa)
In the second match of the day, Bethel pushed Saint Ambrose to four sets before falling 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 18-25, 22-25).
The Pilots came out strong, taking the opening set behind an efficient offense and controlled play. However, Saint Ambrose responded by increasing pressure at the net and capitalizing on Bethel errors down the stretch.
Thomas Dunkley led the attack with 15 kills, while
Nikola Radicevic added 9 kills. Bethel finished with 42 kills on a .165 hitting percentage, compared to Saint Ambrose's .278 efficiency.
The Pilots will look for their next win on Tuesday, March 24 as the Pilots host the Goshen College Maple Leafs (9-13, 4-7) at 7 PM in the Goodman Gymnasium.
