Box Score 2 BRADENTON, Fla. --- The Bethel Pilots (0-2) opened their season on Friday afternoon at the prestigious IMG Academy, falling 8-0 and 11-8 to the New College of Florida Mighty Banyans (10-4).
GAME ONE
The Pilots recorded two hits, with
Andrew Dillon and
Angel Alicea each recording a base hit for the Bethel offense.
Adam Walters also reached base with a walk before stealing second, however he was left on base.
On the mound,
Luke Mast made the start, and
Noah Lyons provided 2.2 innings of relief.
GAME TWO
Bethel responded with strong offense in the nightcap, but came up short with an 11–8 loss to the Mighty Banyans.
The Pilots opened the scoring in the first inning upon a pitching error, with
Jesse Stout reaching first,
Adam Walters taking home plate, and
Anthony Cimini advancing to third. Bethel added three more runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-RBI double from
Angel Alicea for an early 4–0 lead.
Later in the third,
Bryson Gadson drove in a run on a groundout to tie the game at 5–5.
Bethel added another run in the fifth when J. Landkrohn tripled and scored on another RBI groundout by Gadson.
The Pilots closed strong in the seventh inning with two more runs, as Gadson came through again with a two-RBI single, bringing
Jesse Stout and
Anthony Cimini home.
Bethel totaled nine hits in the game and showcased a competitive offensive comeback following the Mighty Banyans' game one win.
Head Coach
Seth Zartman shared, "Although not the complete outcome we would like to see, it was good to get this season off and going on teh field. I thought we made some good adjustments from game one to game two in our offensive approach." He continued, "We competed till the end in game two, but just came up short. Looking forward to getting back on the field tomorrow to get after it!"
Games three and four of the series with the Mighty Banyans will take place at 1 and 4 PM tomorrow.
