ALLENDALE, Mich. ---The Bethel Women's Track and Field Team competed at the Bob Eubanks Open, hosted by Grand Valley State University, on Saturday at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
Gabrielle Zeilenga tied for second in the Long Jump (5.66m), surpassing the NAIA "B" Standard of 5.61m. Zeilenga previously qualified for the Pole Vault Event at NAIA Nationals earlier in the season at Notre Dame's Blue & Gold Invite on Dec. 5.
Zeilenga also placed in the top 50 percent of the field (23rd of 53) in the 200m with a time of 26.88s. Joining her was
Nicanta Smith (26th of 53, 26.95s) who finished ahead of Grand Valley's Aubrey Kopling.
The duo also teamed up alongside
Alyssa Sloop and Addie Rainsberger (4:18.18) for a top six finish in the 4x400m Relay, placing ahead of the University of Chicago.
In the Shot Put Event,
Sydney Rice posted an impressive 6th place finish (11.81m) in a field of 26 athletes.
The Pilots will soon face Grand Valley State again on Friday, Jan. 23. The Lakers will host the GVSU Bill Clinger Event with field events commencing at 1 PM, and running events to follow at 1:30 PM.
