Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. ---The Bethel Pilots (7-2-1, 1-1) posted their first Crossroads League win over the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars (6-2-2, 1-1) on Saturday afternoon at CH4 Stadium.
In addition to handing the Cougars their first conference loss of the 2025 Season, the win marks the first time the Pilots have defeated the Cougars since 2022. Last season, Bethel tied with Mount Vernon 0-0 on Morey Field.
With 12 minutes left on the clock, Senior
Karly Harfouche scored the game-winning goal for the Bethel Pilots. Harfouche now has two goals scored this season.
Senior
Meghan Kiebel claimed the shutout, with an impressive seven total saves recorded. Kiebel recorded two saves in the first, and five saves in the second half of the matchup. Despite the Cougars attempting three shots in the final eight minutes of the game, it was Kiebel's defense that protected Harfouche's offensive work, and ultimately Bethel's victory.
Kiebel shared, "It was definitely important for us to get our first conference win of the year and for it to come on Mount Vernon's home turf...another first for our program, was also in the back of our minds."
The Pilots have not won on Mount Vernon's field since at least before 2011.
Meghan Kiebel continued, "I'm very proud of this group of girls and how resilient we continue to be as the season goes on."
Head Coach Jason Freeman wrote, "Great perseverance to find a late goal today on the road. We had lots of opportunities and MVNU's Goalkeeper Hannah Miller made some fantastic saves throughout. It is fun to play in such a competitive conference, and I am enjoying my job every day with this group."
The Pilots will next compete on Morey Field on Wednesday, Oct. 1st against the University of Saint Francis Cougars. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM.
