Box Score RIO GRANDE, Ohio ---The Bethel Pilots (1-1-1) tied 3-3 on Saturday evening with the Cumberland University Phoenix (2-0-1) in the Rio Classic at Evan E. Davis Field.
Graduate Student
Julian Vargas Talamantes scored the first goal of the evening, in the 13th minute of the first half.
Freshmen
Noe Ferreira and
Sebastian Lopez both scored their first goals as members of the Bethel University Men's Soccer Program.
Ferreira narrowed the 2-1 Phoenix lead as the first half neared its conclusion, scoring off of
Fernando Laserna in the 41st minute of the first (2-2).
Sebastian Lopez posted the final goal of the evening in the 78th minute of the game (3-3).
Despite three shots taken by the Pilots as fulltime approached, the Cumberland defense stood tall and held Bethel to the 3-3 tie.
Head Coach
Thiago Pinto shared, "I thought we progressed well in key areas today. We had the opportunity to stretch a two goal lead with some good opportunities on goal. Great reaction from our group having to respond to being down twice and creating multiple chances to win the game."
Bethel will have its next chance at a victory on Monday morning at 11:00 AM, when the Pilots are slated to face No. 22 Rio Grande at Evan E. Davis Field.
