Box Score 2 VIERA, Fla. ---The Bethel Pilots (5-9) overcame the Fisher College Falcons (0-7) 17-0 at the USSSA Space Coast Complex on Friday. In the second matchup of the day, Bethel fell 4-2 to the Cleary University Cougars (4-10).
Kate Cooper scored two runs and led the team in RBIs with nine.
Hannah Goldsborough recorded three RBIs alongside two runs scored.
Alyssa Forys recorded four runs with one RBI.
GAME ONE
In the bottom of the first,
Alyssa Forys walked as Bethel's first hitter on base. Forys showcased aggressive base running by stealing second and then advancing to third on a wild pitch.
The Pilots had the bases loaded after
Jordan Markley and
Kate Cooper were also walked, and Markley stole second.
Forys scored following
Haylee Allen reaching first after being hit by a pitch. Bethel led 1-0.
Hannah Goldsborough,
Sonia Yoder,
Cassidy Ostema, and
Shelby White each recorded a run to end the first inning up 8-0.
In the bottom of the second,
Emily Kidwell singled up the middle to get the batting started.
Batters
Hannah Goldsborough,
Sonia Yoder,
Cassidy Ostema, and
Shelby White were all walked by Fisher. Kidwell and Goldsborough scored to bring Bethel's run total to 10.
Kate Cooper smacked a triple to left center to bring in
Jordan Markley,
Alyssa Forys, and
Shelby White.
The Pilots ended the second inning up 13-0.
Bethel recorded two runs in both the bottom of the third and the bottom of the fourth, for a final score of 17-0 after the mercy rule was applied.
Cassidy Ostema pitched the entirety of the game (five innings). Ostema opened up the game with three consecutive strikeouts in the top of the first. Ostema threw a total of sixty pitches and struck out ten batters.
GAME TWO
Ryen Clair started game two as the first pitcher for the Pilots.
Morgan Blubaum secured two outs for Bethel in the top of the first., catching two flyouts in center. Catcher
Grace Walker also posted an out.
In the bottom of the first,
Alyssa Forys walked to first. Forys advanced to second following a sacrifice bunt by
Morgan Blubaum.
Forys scored the first run for the Pilots after
Kate Cooper singled up the middle and took the lead 1-0.
Cleary climbed 3-0 after a defensive error by Bethel's first baseman, followed by a two-RBI single up the middle.
The Pilots saw a scoring drought in the bottom of the second but picked up the pace in the bottom of the third with
Kate Cooper's double down the left field line and chipped the deficit to 3-2.
Bethel held Cleary to three runs until the top of the sixth, but the Cougars upped their run total to four following a triple.
Ryen Clair (0-1) pitched two innings and allowed four hits, three runs, and walked two before
Natalee McNeil entered in the third.
McNeil pitched five innings, gave up five hits, and only allowed one run.
The Pilots will open Crossroads League play on Tuesday, March 11 against the University of Saint Francis Cougars at Westendorf Field for a 3 p.m. start.
