FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. ---The Bethel Pilots claimed the National Collegiate Championship title on Saturday at the Crown Coliseum, with a first place finish in the small coed traditional division.
The Pilots competed in both a morning round and an evening round of competition. In the morning, Bethel scored 72.7 out of 90 points for a final percentage of 80.78.
In the evening round, the Pilots improved their score to 77.65 out of 90 possible points, for a final percentage of 86.28.
Bethel was evaluated based on both technical and difficulty factors, including: jumps, standing tumbling, and running tumbling.
These scores reflect continued success in Bethel's program, as the Pilots also won the Grand Championship title last year at the same event, with scores of 70.6 and 73.5. In this year's competition, they set new school records for the scoring in each round.
Coach Lexie Sturgill stated, "The team went on the mat and glorified the Lord with all they had. They represented Bethel with pride and us coaches are so proud of their hard work. We are blessed to have these athletes on our team!"
