GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. --- The Bethel Pilots (0-1) opened the 2025 season with a 12-3 loss to the NCAA Division III Calvin Knights at Zuidema Field on Saturday.
The Pilots fell behind 2-0 after an unassisted goal by Meghan Chang at 11:46 and Jacey Smith at 6:42 in the first quarter, but Serenity Kretschmer answered with an unassisted goal at 2:05 to only trail by one.
In the second, Calvin only netted one goal at 11:32 by Delaney Johnson but put up another at 14:19 in the third to separate to a 4-1 lead.
Mackenzie Holland scored at 12:10 unassisted while one up, and Addi Jones also found the net while still one up at 8:33, 4-3 Knights.
While still down one player, Morgan Bethard scored at 3:16 and again while even at 2:20 to go up 6-3, but Calvin found one more goal at 1:44 to go in the quarter 7-3.
Calvin would shut out the Pilots in the fourth quarter and score five more goals to end the day with a 12-3 win.
Maddie Real (0-1) got the start in net for all 60 minutes and had 14 saves and allowed 12 goals.
Bethel continues the non-conference slate with the Saint Mary's Belles on Thursday, Feb. 27, at the SMC Lacrosse Field at 4 p.m.
