Women's Basketball falls to No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan despite impressive first half

Box Score MARION, Ind.--The Bethel Pilots (11-11, 4-8) fell on the road to the No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats (22-0, 12-0) today in Luckey Arena 76-60. With this loss, the Pilots are now ranked seventh in the Crossroads League.
 
Mariah Claywell led the Pilots' offense, scoring 14 points. She shot 41.7% from the floor (5-12). Claywell hit two season highs for rebounds (nine) and free throws made (four). 
 
Ellia Foster scored 12 points for the Pilots, a season-high for her this season. Foster also hit a season-high, for field goals made in a single game (six). She shot 85.7% from the floor (6-7). 
 
Gracie Lambes contributed 10 points for the Pilots, shooting 75% from the floor (3-4) and 100% from behind the arc (3-3). 
 
Isabel Scales and Caroline Morris each had six rebounds. 
 
In the first quarter, Mariah Clayell had a layup in the paint (8:20) to put the first Pilot points on the board. Gracie Lambes then made a shot from downtown (7:17) as the Pilots trailed by two (7-5). 
 
As the teams battled, Justyce Williams nailed a three-pointer (2:27) to put the Pilots up 19-15. 
Jazmyn Smith made both shots at the charity stripe (0:33), and Bethel ended the first quarter up 23-20. 
 
In the second quarter, Bethel increased their lead with a six-point run. Ellia Foster sank a layup at 4:57 to bring the score 31-23. 
 
Though the Wildcats pushed back, Ellia Foster showcased a layup in the paint at 1:26 (35-32). The Pilots finished the first half up 35-34. 
 
At the onset of the third, Ellia Foster made a free throw at 8:15 to get the points rolling. Claywell followed suit, making both shots at the line (6:46). 
 
Ellia Foster scored on a fastbreak layup at 6:31 to bring the Pilots' score 40-34. Gracie Lambes sank the only three-pointer for Bethel in the quarter (0:24) as the Pilots ended the third down 53-46. 
 
In the fourth quarter, the Wildcat offense continued to challenge the Pilots. Faith Davis made a three-pointer at 5:37 as the Pilots trailed 65-50. 
 
Ellia Foster put the final points on the board for the game with a layup at 1:18. Bethel ended the game down 76-60 despite a great first half. 
 
The Pilots continue the Crossroads League season on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m. They will face the No. 14 University of St. Francis Cougars at the Hutzell Athletic Center.
