SOUTH BEND, Ind. ---The Bethel Esports team competed in three rocket league matchups on Friday, Oct 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1 at Bendix LAN Center.
Bethel University hosted seven Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference teams, including Aquinas College, Siena Heights, Saint Xavier (Ill.), Rochester Christian, Indiana Tech, Lawrence Tech, and Cleary University. The event was comprised of both Rocket League and Overwatch matchups, and was generously sponsored by Visit South Bend Mishawaka.

In Friday's opening matchup, the Saint Xavier Cougars swept the Bethel Pilots 3-0.
Despite the loss,
Gustavo Alvarez was named to the WHAC Rocket League First Team for his contributions throughout the 2025 season. He shared, "It feels good knowing my hard work's paying off, and being recognized in a league full of talent definitely means a lot. But I don't want to stop and reflect too long. I'm already thinking about what's next and excited to see what I'm really capable of."
Head Coach Jacob Rendall shared, "Gus is everything you want in a player. Not only is he highly skilled, but he is competitive, has a high work ethic, is a great teammate and leader...First team for WHAC is a testament to how well he has played and made an impact on Bethel Esports. Congrats, Gus!"
In the evening, Siena Heights defeated the Pilots 3-0, but Bethel bounced back for a good showing on Saturday morning. In a 3-2 loss to Lawrence Tech,
Gustavo Alvarez continued to shine as the leading scorer.
Aaron Gillespie, Assistant Commissioner & Director of Communications for the WHAC, shared, "Our fall Esports championships proved to be a great weekend of competition and camaraderie for all of our WHAC competitors. The Bendix LAN Center was the perfect place for us to compete and we can't thank Coach Rendall and Bethel enough for being such a great host for this event."
Bethel Athletics strives to continue to lead regional efforts in both the promotion and execution of Esports.
The Pilots will soon compete in the GLEC Playoffs at Bendix Lan Center on Nov. 14-15.
