Box Score WINONA LAKE, Ind. ---The Bethel Pilots (9-3-1) fell 3-0 to the No. 18 Grace College Lancers (10-2-2, 3-2) on Saturday evening at 1st Source Bank Field.
Bethel's defense showed up in the first half, with neither team scoring in the first 45 minutes of the Crossroads League matchup.
Meghan Kiebel picked up a save in the fifth minute of the match, and an additional two saves in the second half when Grace attempted to score in the 52nd and 68th minutes.
However, the Lancers dominated in the final minutes of the game, scoring three times against the Bethel defense to secure the win.
Head Coach Jason Freeman shared, "Hard fought game tonight. 3-0 is a tough score line for the way we played. Credit goes to the Lancers for the way they moved the ball and changed tactics in the second half. We had some chances and didn't capitalize. It was tough to see a cross find its way off the post and in our goal 75 minutes into a 0-0 game, but we battled tonight and are turning the page quickly to the next one...Really proud of these ladies tonight, and proud of how they continue to train hard and push each other forward."
Sophomore Midfielder
Leila Mojtahedi shared, "I'm really proud of how we played...We mentioned playing as a unit during our devotional before the game and I think that's exactly what we did. We didn't get the outcome we hoped, but I think our performance says enough about what this team can do and I'm beyond grateful for what everyone left out on that field tonight."
The Pilots will have their next chance at a Crossroads League win on Wed, Oct. 15th as they host the No. 3 Marian Knights on Morey Field. Kickoff is set for 6 PM.
