ALLENDALE, Mich. ---
Lamarr Williams set the school record for the 60-meter dash after winning the event with a 6.76, which is the exact NAIA 'A' Qualifying Standard, the NCCAA Qualifying Standard, and if the Pilots competed in the NCAA, Williams would've hit the NCAA Provisional time. The Pilots had a total of seven NCCAA Qualifying times at the Bob Eubanks Open, hosted by Grand Valley State University, which included teams of a variety of affiliations.
Williams' time broke the previous school record of 6.80, set by recent Al Beutler Hall of Fame inductee Tommy Grant, who set the record on Dec. 4, 2015, at the University of Notre Dame's Blue and Gold Invite.
Williams' record time came after taking third in the 60-meter dash prelims with a time of 6.92 that only met the NCCAA Qualifying time but improved by .16 seconds to hit the NAIA 'A' Qualifying Standard exactly at 6.76.
Brennen Bargesser took 11th in the 60-meter dash at a 7.05 for the NCCAA Standard, and
Joshua Harmon took 18th with a 7.15 for the NCCAA Standard.
Derek Vondrak took 16th in the 60-meter-hurdles with a Personal-Record of 9.08 and the NCCAA Standard to round out the sprinters.
In the 400-meter,
Landon Herbert placed 23rd with a 52.87 meets the NCCAA Standard, and
Kane McCory took 24th at 53.00 for the NCCAA Standard.
The 4x400 Relay team of
Trevor Smith,
Lamarr Williams,
Luke Wray, and
Lucas Linder took 7th with a 3:29.36 but improved to being ranked 41st in the NAIA in the event.
The Pilots return to Grand Valley State University's Kelly Family Sports Center on Friday, Jan. 24 for the GVSU Bill Clinger Classic that is slated to start at 1 p.m.
