MISHAWAKA, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots (13-7, 3-4) forced their eighth five-set match this season with the latest being a win over the Spring Arbor Cougars (9-7, 3-4) in the Gates Gymnasium Wednesday night.
Ainsley Tacke and
Gracen Norris lead the Pilot offensive with 14 kills a piece,
Haley Biedenbach collected 32 assists, and digs were spread out between
Paige Franz (18),
Paige Hickey (18), and Biedenbach (17).
The first set tied 14 times including Mady Payne's kill to force a 23-23 score and
Ainsley Tacke forcing extra points at 24-24, but back-to-back attack errors gave SAU the set 26-24.
Bethel stormed back to win the second set 25-22 after Spring Arbor nearly tied the set at 23-22, but
Taylor Delp put the set away.
The Cougars held the Pilots to 12 points in the third and took set three 25-12, but Bethel climbed out of a 6-4 deficit to storm to a 25-20 set win and force a fifth set.
In the fifth, Bethel won the set and match by hitting a huge 7-0 run to win the fifth set 15-8 and the match 3-2.
The Pilots take on the Saint Francis Cougars in the Hutzell Athletic Center in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m.
