SYLVANIA, Ohio --- The Bethel Pilots Men's Volleyball team (4-3, 0-3) was swept for the first time this season by the NAIA fourteenth-ranked Lourdes Graywolves (3-7, 3-1) in the Ebeid Recreation Center.
Arthur Barreto led the Pilot attack with nine kills at a .211 clip and four digs, but 22 attack errors for a .073 attack percentage is what troubled the Pilots in Sylvania, along with allowing 11 aces by Graywolves servers.
The Pilots have only taken one set from the Graywolves in the series' short history, which was the first time Bethel played Lourdes at the Ebeid Recreation Center when the Graywolves won 3-1.
Bethel did not go quietly and almost came back late in the first set when Vinicius Lopes had back-to-back attack errors to make it 22-21 Lourdes, but the final points ended on attack errors by both sides and ended 25-22.
The Pilots jumped to a 5-1 run at the beginning of the third set after trailing the entire second set. Andrin Broder, who had four kills and only two errors, had a kill off the set from McGwire Eigenrauch to slow the Graywolves' gradual comeback at 10-9, but a kill by Lourdes' Joey Bianco tied the set 10-10.
Bethel fell behind 22-18, and Arthur Barreto swung a kill at 22-19, but it would not be enough as LU sealed the set victory 25-20 and the match victory 3-0.
